Hearing Empowered Michelle

I’m Michelle.  I built this project to help you get your life back.

I’ve worn hearing aids for over thirty years and spent more than a decade inside an independent audiology clinic.

I built Hearing Empowered™ to help people find independent clinics that meet a high standard for care, clarity, and long-term support.

HEARING LOSS CAN START A LOT EARLIER THAN PEOPLE THINK

Real People. Real Stories. Real Change.

Michelle has worn hearing aids since she was a kid. Steve had no idea he had hearing loss until recently. Different starting points, different technologies, completely different experiences of what it means to finally hear well. Between us, we’ve probably lived whatever version of this you’re in right now.

THE BEST INDEPENDENT HEARING CLINICS ACROSS CANADA

Hearing Empowered™ started because of Lakeside Hearing.

In audiology circles across Canada, Lakeside is considered the gold standard of care. I know that because I work with manufacturers and clinics across the country. New audiology grads cite Lakeside as the clinic they most want to work for. Their reputation is real, and it’s earned.

I’ve also seen it from the inside. I’ve helped them with their marketing for over ten years. I know how Nichole and Claire treat people, how much time they take, how little pressure there is. I know what it looks like when a clinic actually gets it right.

Most people have no idea a clinic like this exists, let alone how to find one near them. That’s the whole reason I built Hearing Empowered™. To help people find clinics like Lakeside, wherever they are in Canada.

OUR RECOMMENDED KELOWNA HEARING CLINIC

The founder of Lakeside Hearing, has been in practice since 1999.

The clinic is led by founder, Dr. Nichole Sorensen and Dr. Claire Beldi, both Doctors of Audiology, alongside a trusted team of Registered Audiologists and a Hearing Instrument Practitioner. Together, they provide thoughtful, evidence-based care for people of all ages.

Because Lakeside is fully independent, they can fit hearing aids from every major brand. You won’t be limited to one or two options. Instead, they’ll help you find the technology that matches your hearing profile, your lifestyle, and your budget. They also offer a price match guarantee, a free two-week hearing aid trial with no obligation, and personalized support throughout the process.

Common Questions

Yes. Their full diagnostic hearing assessment with one of their audiologists is $100.

Not all hearing tests are the same. Some free tests offered in the region are basic hearing screenings designed to quickly check whether hearing changes may be present. Lakeside Hearing provides diagnostic hearing assessments, which are far more comprehensive and designed to understand what is actually happening within the auditory system.

Their assessments evaluate the type and degree of hearing loss, speech understanding, listening effort, and overall auditory health. This information helps determine whether medical follow up may be needed and guides accurate hearing aid recommendations and programming.

If hearing aids are recommended, the information gathered during a diagnostic assessment is essential to fitting and adjusting them properly. Hearing aids are only as effective as the way they’re fit.

These appointments take more time, involve specialized equipment, and are completed by an audiologist who carefully explains the results and how they connect to everyday listening experiences. Lakeside Hearing believes in transparent pricing and thoughtful, individualized care from the beginning.

Their appointments begin with conversation first. The audiologist takes time to understand what brought you in, the listening environments you spend time in, and the patterns you’ve noticed in daily life. That may include people seeming to mumble, difficulty hearing in restaurants, turning up the TV, feeling drained after social situations, or ringing in your ears. This context matters because hearing loss shows up differently for different people.

From there, they complete a full diagnostic hearing assessment focused on clarity, speech understanding, and overall auditory function. Testing may include hearing thresholds, middle ear function, speech testing, acoustic reflexes, and other measures that help determine how your hearing system is working. If tinnitus is part of your experience, they include that in the assessment as well.

Once testing is complete, they walk through the results with you in plain language. You’ll understand what the findings mean, how they connect to your real-life listening experiences, and why things like listening fatigue or difficulty hearing in noise may be happening.

The final part of the appointment is discussing next steps. For some people that means simply monitoring hearing over time. Others may benefit from communication strategies, tinnitus support, or hearing technology. If hearing aids are recommended, the conversation focuses on fit, comfort, listening environments, and long-term success, not simply choosing a device.

This clinic is independently owned and audiologist-led. That means recommendations are based on your hearing profile, lifestyle, listening environments, and comfort, rather than being limited to one manufacturer or corporate sales structure. The focus is long-term hearing care, follow-up, and proper fitting support.
Most people don’t wake up one day and suddenly realize they have hearing loss. It usually shows up as extra effort. Conversations feel tiring. Restaurants get harder. You keep asking people to repeat themselves, or you smile and fill in the blanks. If hearing is taking more energy than it used to, it’s probably worth booking a hearing evaluation.

A lot of people who go to Lakeside Hearing think they can still hear mostly okay. What has usually changed is the amount of effort it takes to follow conversations clearly.

You may notice yourself concentrating harder in restaurants, meetings, family gatherings, or group conversations. You might feel mentally drained after social situations, miss parts of conversations in noise, or find yourself constantly piecing sentences together from context. Many people describe it as feeling like they’re working overtime just to keep up.

Hearing loss often affects clarity and speech understanding long before everything sounds muffled. The brain starts filling gaps, predicting words, and compensating constantly. Over time, that listening effort can become exhausting.

Even if hearing aids are not needed right now, it’s still valuable to have a baseline hearing assessment. It gives you a clear understanding of where your hearing currently sits and creates a reference point for tracking changes over time. Because hearing changes often happen gradually, many people adapt so slowly they do not realize how much extra effort they’ve been carrying until they finally experience relief.

If hearing support would be helpful, hearing aids are designed to reduce that strain. The goal is not simply making things louder. It’s helping conversations feel easier, more natural, and less mentally taxing throughout the day.

Yes. Lakeside Hearing offers free* hearing aid trials so you can experience what hearing support actually feels like in your real life.

That means trying them at home, in restaurants, during conversations, while watching TV, at work, or spending time with family and friends. The goal is to understand whether they genuinely make listening feel easier, clearer, and less exhausting in the environments that matter to you.

Adjustments are made along the way so the hearing aids can be fine tuned for comfort, clarity, and your everyday listening needs.

Michelle chooses one independent clinic to support within each market based on which clinic she believes aligns most closely with the values behind Hearing Empowered™: thoughtful care, strong clinical standards, individualized treatment, long-term support, and a deep understanding of how hearing loss affects real life beyond the audiogram.

In many ways, Lakeside Hearing is part of the reason Hearing Empowered™ exists at all.

After living with hearing loss for more than thirty years, Michelle understood firsthand how dramatically the quality of hearing care can shape someone’s experience. What stood out about Lakeside Hearing was not just their clinical expertise, but the way they approached people. They understood listening effort, fatigue, adaptation, communication strain, and how hearing loss quietly affects participation in everyday life.

Michelle has also seen the clinic from the inside. She has worked with Lakeside Hearing on marketing and strategy for more than ten years and has had a close view into how Nichole and Claire care for patients every day. How much time they take. How carefully they explain things. How little pressure there is. How seriously they take fitting, follow up, and long-term support. She knows what it looks like when a clinic truly gets hearing care right.

Claire and Nichole also serve as clinical advisors to Hearing Empowered™. They care deeply about education, reducing stigma, helping people seek support earlier, and strengthening hearing health awareness within the broader community.

Experiences like this helped shape the vision behind Hearing Empowered™. Michelle wanted more Canadians to be able to find independent hearing clinics that approached care with that same level of thoughtfulness, expertise, and long-term support.

Lakeside Hearing became our founding clinical partner because their philosophy and patient care approach aligned deeply with that vision.
